The courier Liv Gundersen

Messages had to be delivered, contacts warned and information moved without anyone outside the network understanding what was going on. Liv Gundersen was a courier for the resistance movement in Notodden, and so stepped into the role that makes an illegal apparatus possible at all: she carried what could not be written down or telephoned in.

During the raid in the early hours of 24 November 1943 she was arrested. On 10 August 1944 she and the Milorg sector commander Ottar Haugland were sent on to the Stutthof concentration camp in occupied Poland. Both held out until peace came in May 1945.

There is little in the open sources about where she lived, which routes she walked or where she was taken. That is precisely what is typical of courier work: it deliberately left behind as few traces as possible.

Neither a home address, courier routes nor a place of arrest for Liv Gundersen is given in the open sources. The marker is a stand-in anchor on Notodden Torv, the same point as the raid marker, and does not show a particular place connected with her.
